About Myself
I was born in Channelview, Texas. I moved to Wichita when I was 4 years old. I have always been fascinated with mechanical things and what makes them work. Starting with bicycles at an early age, I was always taking them apart and putting on parts from other bikes to create something different. We moved to rural Butler County when I was 12, That opened up a new venture for me car and trucks. I began to drive around in the fields when I was about 13. Soon after that I was dragging old cars home and working on them. I'm sure I drove my parents crazy many times. Especially my mother, she was a Public Notary so about every week it seemed I was having her notarize a title for me. When I got my driver's license I'm sure I really started to cause mayhem in the country. I drove a rural paper route when I was in high school and really liked going fast on dirt roads. I began a career in the auto parts business at Dick Hatfield Chevrolet in Augusta, Ks, I worked there a little over a year and then was offered a parts position at Buford Ward Chevrolet in El Dorado, Ks. I worked there about 6 months and was offered a parts position at Joe Self Chevrolet in Wichita, Ks. I worked there for 15 years, before taking a position at Davis-Moore Auto Group. I worked there for about 9 years. In August of 2004,  I had the opportunity to take a positon at Scholfield Pontiac/Buick/GMC as a Wholsale Parts Specialist.  During my teens and early 20's I found the love of auto racing. I enjoyed some sucess at International Raceway in Wichita, Ks. But I really hate to admit it but most of my racing sucess came in the form of money racing on the rural roads and old blacktop roads in Butler County. In 1987, I got my first taste of dirt track racing at 81 Speedway. It was in a 100 lap Enduro Race. There were approximately 180 cars and we started in rows 3 cars wide and the finishing order was determined by running order of the cars left. I finished in the 4th spot and won 75 dollars. I was really hooked now. And that led me to racing in the Street Stock class at 81 Speedway.
I have a son Mark and Daughter in-law Nicole and 3 granddaughters Haylee, Cera, Jackilynn, and a daughter Brandi.

About My Website
I decided to create this website to let people learn about dirt track racing from a behind the scenes perspective. There are alot of misconseptions about dirt track racing. Like we are all insane, drunken, rednecks that like to tear up cars. Well that's not the case in most racing classes. There are many racing classes at 81 Speedway. I've listed them from the entry level Jr. Hornets up to the high end Sprint Cars.
Jr. Hornets (14-17 year olds)
Hornets
Cruisers (driver & co-driver)
Thumpers
Street Stocks
Sportsmans
Rookie Modifieds
Modifieds
Rookie Sprint Cars
Sprint Cars

As you can see the higher up you go the faster the cars and the more money you'll spend. A great way to see these cars and the men and women who drive them is to attend an event at 81 Speedway or a track near you. We also have an annual race car show held at Towne West Square at the end of February. This is an excellent way to see the cars up close and talk to many of the drivers and get an idea of what it's like.
